Students with special educational needs (SEN)

With a clear educational ambition for the success of all students and adapted schooling paths, the inclusive school takes better account of the specific needs of all students, especially those with special educational needs.

The downloadable brochure provides a summary of useful information on welcoming and supporting students with special educational needs in French educational establishments abroad, since inclusive schooling is a principle that the Agency is committed to upholding.

EFIB awarded the "Parle" label

Since 2022

Our school is certified "PARLE" (Parcours Adapté et Renforcé en Langues Étrangères) by the AEFE!

Enhanced learning of modern languages from nursery school onwards and the promotion of a multilingual education are at the heart of our lycée's teaching project. They contribute to the excellence of our school.

The recognition of our school as a provider of "PARLE" (Parcours Adaptés et Renforcés en Langues Étrangères - Adapted and Enhanced Foreign Language Courses) encourages this linguistic openness.

"PARLE" provides greater exposure to the modern languages chosen by the student and his/her family as part of a personal project, so that schooling in a French lycée around the world is an asset for life.

Our students can practice 3 languages right up to the end of their studies, thanks to systematic language learning. What's more, they can reinforce what they've already learned by taking advantage of another subject taught in the language of the host country.

From the age of 3, our pupils are immersed in 3 modern languages that they will hear, discover and speak: French, of course, which is our language of schooling, German and English. Our pupils will be able to perfect these 3 modern languages until the end of their schooling at our school.

To develop the acquisition of English and German, we also offer teaching of different subjects in English or German (CLIL, DNL): this year, for example, art is taught in German.

Our students and their families can also choose to enroll in language-focused extra-curricular activities during the lunch break. The ultimate goal is to pass the GOETHE and/or CAMBRIDGE exams.

Inclusive school

The International French School of Berne is an inclusive school

We provide quality schooling for students from kindergarten to secondary school, taking into account their individual characteristics and special educational needs.

The school offers a warm welcome to its students:

  • undergoing long-term medical treatment or care,
  • with difficulties at school or not linked to a learning disability,
  • non-French speakers,
  • intellectually precocious or high-potential and identified as such by professionals,
  • experiencing difficulties at school due to learning disability(ies) diagnosed by professionals,
  • with disabilities, ...

EFIB believes that these students require special attention from the teachers who accompany them through their school career.

The accommodations recommended by the French Ministry of Education are implemented in the classroom.

They are introduced during the D.N.B. exams at the request of families and with the approval of the Strasbourg education authority.
