General questions

Is there a registration deadline?

There is no deadline for enrolling your child. However, it is important to note that by enrolling your child as early as possible, you secure a spot for them at our school. Generally, we open enrollment for the upcoming school year in January of the current calendar year (e.g., January 2024 for the school year starting in September 2024).

Is there an entrance exam for EFIB?

We do not conduct entrance tests for children wishing to join our school. However, the management reserves the right to conduct a test if deemed necessary.

Parents are reminded that entry to kindergarten is subject to two conditions:

- The child must be 3 years old in the year of admission to the petite-section.

- The child must be potty-trained. If the child is not potty-trained, EFIB's partner KidsCare can take charge of the child until he or she is potty-trained, without any contractual obligation.

How can I enroll my child at the French International School of Berne?

All registrations and re-registrations must go through the EDUKA platform. You will find the registration tutorial here: EDUKA tutorial

Is it possible to enroll my child for just a few months?

We don't offer families the option of enrolling their children in school for just a few months.

Unless there are exceptional family circumstances (such as parents relocating to Switzerland for a limited period, etc.), in which case the administration will review each case individually.

My child doesn't speak French: will he or she receive support?

The French International School of Bern is an international school open to students of all nationalities, regardless of whether French is their native language. To this end, we have established two programs designed to help students master the French language and culture:

  • FLE (French as a foreign language)
  • FLSco (French as a second language)

Please visit our page dedicated to allophone students: Allophone students

New students at the school can also participate in the Summer Club during July and August to get to know their new classmates and practice their French.

All information about the vacation club can be found here.

Can schools provide support for children with language disorders (dyslexia, developmental delays, etc.)?

If your child has speech difficulties, a language delay, articulation disorders, dyslexia, or attention disorders, we would like to inform you that, starting with the new school year in September 2024, our school has established a partnership with Ms. Amato, a qualified speech-language pathologist.

However, before making an appointment directly with her, it is essential to go through the school administration first. We will then arrange for you to be put in touch with Ms. Amato if deemed necessary.

Please note that we reserve the right to decline a request for a speech therapy consultation if teachers determine that such treatment is not necessary for the child. In that case, you will need to contact your family doctor.

My child has special educational needs (learning disabilities, attention disorders, etc.): how can the school help?

The French International School of Bern is committed to ensuring the success of all students by offering tailored educational pathways. To this end, we take into account the specific needs of all students, particularly those with special educational needs. Visit our page dedicated to this topic: https://new.efib.ch/pedagogie/
