L’École Française Internationale de Berne (EFIB) est une école internationale ouverte aux élèves de toutes nationalités, que leur langue maternelle soit le français ou non.
French as a Foreign Language (FLE) & French as a Second Language (FLsco)
The school offers non-French-speaking children the opportunity to learn the language or to strengthen their French language skills through specific French teaching by a teacher specialising in the teaching of French as a foreign language.
In addition to learning the language, our teachers introduce these students to French culture in its entirety.
The French as a Second Language (FLSco) sessions are intended for an audience that has mastered basic skills (the so-called "linguistic survival" level).
Understanding these two systems:
The aim of these two schemes is to improve (FLE)/(FLSco) the mastery of the French language and culture while promoting communication between children and with the French-speaking staff of the school.
They facilitate the understanding of lessons, school life and the learning of French culture by teaching grammar, phonetics and specific lexicon.
The FLE or FLSco sessions are adapted to the needs of each student. Lessons are given individually or in small groups (7 students maximum), according to needs, by class level.
Students who need FLE or FLSco sessions are identified by their teacher(s). The needs are then estimated by the FLSco teacher. Each group or student has their own progression and activities. A logbook is kept in order to follow day after day the activities, the evolution and the progress of the group or the student.
In primary school, these sessions are an integral part of the students' timetable because they are placed during language classes and do not generate additional hours of lessons. For middle school students, these classes can be placed outside their usual schedule.
The FLE sessions or the FLSco sessions are financially covered by the school.
