The French International School of Bern (EFIB) is an international school open to students of all nationalities, regardless of whether their native language is French.
Terms and Conditions
Students who do not speak French are welcome at EFIB:
-
Up through first grade, with no language prerequisites,
- After first grade, following a meeting with the family and the student.
French as a Foreign Language (FLE) & French as a Second Language (FLSco)
The school offers language support tailored to non-French-speaking students to help them learn French or improve their language skills.
This course is taught by a teacher who specializes in French as a Foreign Language (FLE).
Two programs tailored to the student's level
-
FLE: intended for students who are beginners in French.
-
FLSco: intended for students who have already acquired basic French language skills (the so-called " linguistic survival" level).
The goal of these two initiatives is to improve students’ language skills while encouraging them to communicate with one another and with the entire school community.
Course Structure
FLE and FLSco classes are tailored to the needs of each student:
-
in individual or small group sessions (maximum of 7 students);
-
by grade level.
The students in question are identified by their teachers. Their needs are then assessed by the FLSco teacher.
Each student or group follows a personalized learning path with tailored activities. Regular monitoring allows us to track their development and the progress they make.
In elementary school, these sessions are an integral part of the students’ schedule and do not require any additional hours.
In middle school, they may be held outside of the regular schedule.
Intensive French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses are offered as a semester-long package.
Estimated cost: 2,250 CHF (18 weeks).
