College (11 – 14 years old)

Middle school marks the entry of students into secondary education, which, after elementary school, welcomes children from 11 to 14 years old.

The collège is organized into four levels: sixième, cinquième, quatrième and troisième and structured into two educational cycles:

  • cycle 3 (consolidation cycle) unites CM1, CM2 of the elementary school and the class of 6e. Its organization naturally finds its place within the framework of the school-college council that came into effect at the start of the 2014 school year. In this cycle, the class of 6e must allow students to adapt to the organization and living environment of the collège, as well as to ensure the continuity of learning undertaken in the classes of CM1 and CM2 ;
  • cycle 4 (cycle des approfondissements) includes the classes of 5e, 4e and 3e. During this cycle, students develop their knowledge and skills in the various disciplines while preparing for their future education and active participation in the evolution of society.

The student who enters the college discovers the different aspects of it: a new schedule, more people to talk to, different work methods. The priority is to ensure a relationship of trust between the school, the student and his or her parents in order to help the student find his or her way around and to accompany him or her through school.

The school is a place for training the individual and the future citizen. To this end, a great deal of importance is placed on education in responsibility, as well as on the necessary respect for people, rules and the environment.

EFIB has an ambitious language policy that sets it apart from other schools: a student who has completed his or her schooling from kindergarten to 9th grade benefits from 701 hours of German and 605 hours of English more than a student who has completed his or her schooling in the Swiss system.
